The American soprano and voice teacher, Kathryn M. Peperkorn’s obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Concordia College in Seward Nebraska, and her Masters of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Ball State University. Beyond this she has continued her professional study by working with such teachers, coaches and conductors as Joseph Rescigno, Marco Boemi, Richard Boldrey, Nico Castel, Joan Dornemann, Mignon Dunn, Kurt Klippstatter, Sherrill Milnes, Bruno Rigacci, and Tim Shaindlin.
Kathryn Peperkorn has been teaching voice lessons privately since 1993. In 1997 upon completion of her Masters of Vocal Performance she began teaching at Indiana Perdue University in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. In 1999 she began her teaching as an adjunct at Carthage College in Kenosha Wisconsin. In 2001 she dedicated herself solely to her private studio teaching. In 2005, she began her highly successful summer program “Opera ala Carte”, with 6 of her own students. Within the seven years of her direction this program came to include over 100 students each summer ranging in age from 5-65, with audiences of over 1,500 people. She was Artistic Director at SEWPA (January 2005-August 2011). Since 2012, she has her own studio Peperkorn Studios in Rocklin, California.
Kathryn Peperkorn has performed numerous operatic roles such as: Madame Pompous in Too Many Sopranos, Mimi in La Boheme, Norma in Norma, Anna Bolena in Anna Bolena, Violetta in La Traviata, Costanza in W.A. Mozart's Entführung aus dem Serail, Marguerite in Charles Gounod's Faust, Leila in Georges Bizet's Les pêcheurs des perles, Sarah Garrett in She never lost a passanger, and Maketaten in Philip Glass’ Akhnaten.
Kathryn Peperkorn has enjoyed working with many different opera companies including Florentine Opera, Chicago Opera Theatre, Indianapolis Opera,and Milwaukee Opera Theatre. In 2010 Kathryn was proud to be one of the performers in Florentine Operas Grammy winning recording of the Opera Elmer Gantry. As well as a part of the world premiere cast of Rio di Sangre.
Kathryn Peperkorn has appeared as soloist in oratorio performances including: Grieg's Peer Gynt, J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245), J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244), J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243), J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), Beck’s Requiem, and Luboff’s African Mass.
Kathryn Peperkorn has been a prize winner in many vocal competitions, some of which include: the Eleanor Lieber Awards, the Gerda Lissner Foundation, The Mac Allister Awards, The Bel Canto Foundation, National Association of Teachers of Singing, and National Music Teachers Association. Her other interests include her hobbies of ballroom dancing, jogging, and hiking. |
