The German conductor, organist, harpsichordist and music pedagogue, Rainer Oster, studied at the Musikhochschule Saarbrücken (organ with Paul Schneider and Andreas Rothkopf) and Musikhochschule Stuttgart (soloist class with Jon Laukvik). In 1992 he won the first prize at the International Johann-Pachelbel-Wettbewerb der Orgelwoche Nürnberg; in 1993 Bach Prize of the Landeshauptstadt Wiesbaden.
As a music educator, lecturer and freelance concert organist, Rainer Oster operates internationally. He also acts as a harpsichordist and fortepiano player. His concert career as an organist led him to numerous countries in Europe and Japan. Numerous radio productions, recordings and live concerts at various ARD and Radio France, CD recordings for BMG / Arte Nova and German Harmonia Mundi document his work.
Since 2000 Rainer Oster works as freelancer in the music department of Saarländischen Rundfunk, where among other things journalistic activity and editor are part of his work. In 1999 and 2007 he was Visiting Professor for Jon Laukvik at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart and in 2012 for Helmut Deutsch at the Musikhochschule Freiburg. Since 2010 he is a teacher for artistic organ playing at the Hochschule für Musik Saar.
In 2002 Rainer Oster founded the period instruments Ensemble Parlando; in 2009, the Vokalconsort Parlando. With this ensemble, he played on the organ concertos and sonatas by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach as well as a number of the harpsichord concertos by J.S. Bach.
