The Hungarian-Romanian baritone, Gyula Orendt, studied singing at the Transilvania Music University in Brasov (Kronstadt), Romania, and completed his studies at the Academy of Music Franz Liszt in Budapest, where he was also trained as a singing teacher. Besides second prizes at two competitions in Romania and Germany, he won at the Francisco Viñas Competition in Barcelona the Mozart Prize and the prize for oratorio / Lieder.
At the Volksoper Vienna, Gyula Orendt was heard in the following roles: as Marullo in Rigoletto, as Vicomte Cascada in Die lustige Witwe and as Anton Schnappauf in Wilhelm Kienzls Der Evangelimann«.. Previously, he already appeared at the Volksoper as Moralès and Le Dancaïre in Carmen as well as the Hunter in Rusalka. Orendts studied roles include Guglielmo, Papageno, Marcello, Schaunard, Gianni Schicchi, Dandini and Aeneas, as well as and Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Ping in Turandot, Nick Shadow in The Rake's Progress and Colas in Bastien und Bastienne.
Gyula Orendt also performs in concerts, oratorios and Lieder with works by J.S. Bach, Charles Gounod, George Frideric Handel, Robert Schumann and by Hungarian composers Zoltán Kodály, János Decsényi and Kósa György.
Since the 2011-2012 season, Gyula Orendt is a member of the International Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin and has scholarship of Liz Mohn Kultur- und Musikstiftung. At the Staatsoper, he sang at the Schiller Theater this season the role of Papageno in Die Zauberflöte and a number of smaller roles. |
