The Japanese bass, Kazuhiko Ono [小野 和彦], studied at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, Graduate School of doctoral graduates, obtaining his PhD. He studied singing with Mikiko Makino, Takahashi Keizo, Harada Shigeo, and received guidance also from Michio Tatara. Muddy Mesple, Monserrat Caballe, Ernst Haefliger, Gabriel Bakie, Walter Berry, and Francesco Errero. Hae wom 1st prize at the 12th Buddha Vocal Competition, 2nd place at the 1st Nagakute Opera Vocal Competition, and prizes at the 32nd Italian Vocal Concorso and the 2nd Canary International Vocal Competition.
Kazuhiko Ono's main roles in ioprera have been at Nissay Theatre: Osmin in W.A. Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail; at the New National Theatre: The Marquis of Calatrava in La forza del destino, Zuniga in Georges Bizet's Carmen, Elviro in Xerxes. At the Suntory Hall he appeared with the tenor Neil Shicoff as Zuniga in Carmen, and with Renato Bruson as Pistola in Falstaff. Other appearances have been Sarastro in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Il Commendatore and Leporello in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Don Alfonso inCosi fan tutte, Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro, Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia l, Le Grand Inquisiteur in Don Carlos, and Don Iñigo Gomez in L'heure espagnole, etc
Main roles in concerts have been with New Japan Philharmonic Robert Schumann's Szenen aus Goethes Faust, with Tokyo Symphony Orchestra Hans-Werner Henze's L’Upupa und der Triumph der Sohnesliebe, with the conductor G. Rozhdestvensky J. Haydn's The Seasons, with the conductor Hans-Joachim Rotzsch J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244)", George Frideric Handel;s Messiah, with the conductor J. Lockhart L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. Other appearances have included Requiems of W.A. Mozart, Verdi and Gabriel Fauré, and J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245).
Kazuhiko Ono is a lecturer at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. He is also Associate Professor Saitama University Faculty of Education, where he gives music education courses. |
