Naoko Okada (Soprano)

Born: Kyoto, Japan

The Japanese soprano, Naoko Okada, studied singing and piano at the outstanding Doshisha University in Kyoto. She gave numerous concerts in Kyoto, Osaka as well as Tokyo and won in 1980 the "Grand Prix" of the "Kyoto Music Association". Since 1982 she lives in Switzerland, where she completed her training with Juliette Bise at the Conservatoire of Lausanne (1984 "Prime Minister Prix de Virtuosité", 1986 "Licence de Concert").

Since that time Naoko Okada pursues an international career as soloist with concerts in Europe, Israel, Canada, the USA and Japan. She has co-operated with many orchestras, such as Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Israel Chamber Music Orchestra, Vancouver Chamber Music Orchestra, Gulbenkian Orchestra (Lisbon), National Philharmonic Orchestra of Poland, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and Radio-Symphonie-Orchester-Berlin.

Naoko Okada has made recordings for broadcast and CD's with Radio Japan (Tokyo), Radio Suisse Romande (Lausanne), Swiss Radio (Basel), Westdeutscher Rundfunk (Cologne), and CBC (Vancouver) and for Cascavelle with Michel Corboz as conductor. Her repertoire is rich and encompasses Lieder, oratorios, Masses, and contemporary works, as well as operas. The contemporary composers Braem, Rogg, Schlaepfer and Sutermeister entrusted premieres to the artist.
