The Japanese conductor, Emiko Ohmura, graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music (department of musicology and composition). She studied composition, conducting and musicology at Strasbourg Conservatoire and Strasbourg University in France.
During her course of studying in France, Emiko Ohmura decided to perform J.S. Bach’s cantatas, and she founded Bach-Chor Tokyo in 1962 immediately after her return from France. Several concerts a year have been realized since its start. She presents J.S. Bach’s major works in Japanese according to her own translation (about 120 cantatas, Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248), Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), all of J.S. Bach’s motets, small masses, and others). |
