Danni O'Neill (Soprano)

Born: Canterbury, Kent, England

The English soprano, Danni O'Neill, graduated in 2018 from Royal Holloway University of London as a choral scholar and won the University Chamber Music Prize with her sister Kirsty (September 2015-July 2018). She is a recent Masters graduate with distinction from the the Royal Academy of Music on the preparatory opera course with part scholarship (2020). She is taught by Raymond Connell and coached by James Baillieu. She was awarded the Michael Head Prize for English Song in her first year, was a soloist for the Bach the European series throughout her studies, including a J.S. Bach's Solo Cantata BWV 202 with Rachel Podger, Cantata BWV 146 with John Butt and George Frideric Handel's Dixit Dominus with Iain Ledingham. She was a soloist with Academy Voices and received a DipRAM for an outstanding final recital. Her studies and travel were generously funded by Mr. David Williams and The Streynshams Trust alongside her scholarship.

Danni O'Neill currently works as a freelance choral and solo singer alongside her studies and before RAM she was a member of the NYCGB Fellowship 4 and Genesis Sixteen (August 2016-August 2017). Since Genesis, she has performed with The Sixteen, conducted by Eamonn Dougan and Harry Christophers, in the UK, on tour to Australia and in Singapore. She has performed and recorded with the Southwell Festival Voices, Tredici, Echo, The Carice Singers, The Chamber Choir fo London, Erebus Ensemble, various projects as a Genesis Alumni including Felix Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Nights Dream with Ryan Wigglesworth and James Macmillan's Symphony in The Barbican. Danni has also recorded music for the Oxford University Press conducted by Bob Chilcott, Classic FM Christmas video broadcasts and performed on various on BBC RADIO 3 In Tune broadcasts. She is also co-founder of Recordare Chamber Choir with Conductor Harry Bradford and Soprano Kirsty O’Neill.

As a soloist, Danni O'Neill has performed in some prestigious venues such as The Royal Festival Hall, The Royal Albert Hall, Canterbury Cathedral, The Winspear Centre in Edmonton - Canada, Kings Place with The Carice Singers and St. Johns Smith Square. Recent engagements include Ensemble Pro Victoria’s J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245), G.F. Handel's Messiah in Christ Church Priory, Sea Scapes by Tim Bowers with Guitarist Sergiu Hudrea, Alma Mahler Lieder with Ed Liebrecht for the University of Surrey, Peasblossom in Royal Academy Opera’s Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Nights Dream, St Pauls Opera Gala, Nanetta in Verdi’s Falstaff for the RAO Opera Scenes alongside Liam Bonthrone, Lucette in Cendrillon by Massenet in the VF Opera Scenes with Helen Corlette, Phyllis in Love Opera and Green Opera’s online G&S production of Iolanthe directed by Eleanor Burke and she has recorded many learning tracks over lockdown for Run by Singers and The Self Isolation Choir.

Upcoming performances include Academy Voices Transcending Boarders at the Royal Academy of Music, G.F. Handel's 9 German Arias Recital at St. Brides Fleet Street, Cheltenham Festival with The Carice Singers and HEARD, a new work by Anna Semple for 5 Soloists in Heath Street Baptist Church. She is making her professional Opera Chorus debut in Lille Opera House in December, followed by Luxembourg in 2022, performing Dido and Aeneas by Purcell with the Le Concert d'Astrée and Emmanuelle Haïm.
