The Brazilian counter-tenor, Pedro Couri Neto, began his musical life at age 8, as a boy singer in Coral Mater Verbi, under the direction of José Maria Winiewski. At Centro Cultural Pró-Música,Music, developed intense activity as a singer and violinist, integrating Pro Musica Antiqua, Solistas de Câmara and as concertmaster of the Orquestra de Câmara, having presented in important Brazilian centers and made many recordings for TV. In 1989 he moved to the Netherlands to study Baroque violin with Sigiswald Kuijken at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where later, in 1992, he began to focus his studies on singing, in the course of education, and student Rita Dams and Marius van Altena.
As counter-tenor, Pedro Couri Neto is dedicated the opera to chamber music, and participated in numerous concerts in Europe under the direction of William Christie (Dadid et Johrnatas by M.A.Charpentier), Jos van Veldhoven (Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach), Kenneth Montgomery (L'Ormindo by Cavalli) and the Foreign Music Group, addressing the repertoire of Italian Trecento and French Ars Nova. He participated as a soloist in the project "Bella Figura" of contemporary dance with the renowned dance company Nederlands Danz Theater in The Hague that toured throughout the Netherlands. In 1999, he finished the singing course in Holland, after nine years of stay in Europe.
Pedro Couri Neto performed served as a soloist in Magnificat (BWV 243) and Mass in B minor BWV 232 by J.S. Bach and the oratorio La Ressurezzione by George Frideric Handel with the Nederlands Baroque Orchestra in the São Paulo and Cecília Meireles halls in conducting and musical direction by Luis Otávio de Souza Santos. Recently, he appeared at the IV Encontro Internacional sobre Barroco (International Meeting on Baroque) with Os Músicos de Capella em La paz, Bolivia.
Pedro Couri Neto teaches singing at Pró-Música Escola de Arte and Professor at Festival Internacional de Música Colonial Brasileira e Música Antiga, of Pró-Música de Juiz de Fora. |
