Cecilia Nanneson (Soprano)

Born: Stockholm, Sweden

The Swedish soprano, Cecilia Nanneson, studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Köln with Professor Phillip Langshaw and received there her artistic maturity with distinction. Afterwards, she continued her training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she was awarded in 1996 first prize in the Schubert contest. In 1998 she completed her studies with a Konzertexamen at the Hochschule in Köln. She has received several scholarships, including that of the Richard Wagner Association in Köln (1995), and Konstnärsnämnden, Stockholm (1998 & 2000).

In 1996 Cecilia Nanneson was engaged at the Royal Dramatic Theater Stockholm. In 1998-1999 season she started her career as an opera singer at the Luzerner Theater, performing the parts of Euridice in Gluck’s Orfeo and the First Niece in Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes. Since then she has appeared at opera stages in Germany, Sweden (Royal Opera Stockholm, Sörmlands Musik och Teater, Stockholm Operetta Ensemble) and Denmark, including the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and the Norrland Opera in Sweden.

In 2004 Cecilia Nanneson made her debut at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, in Christina by Hans Gefors and she appeared for the first time at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen, when standing in as Euridice in Gluck’s Orfeo. She also took part in a staged production of Carmina Burana by Carl Orff at Sörmlands Musik och Teater in Sweden. In 2005 she sung the part of Neocle in Témistocle by Johann Christian Bach in a production with Les Talens Lyriques and Christophe Rousset that was performed at the Leipzig Opera and the opera in Toulouse. In the summer of 2006 she played the part of Ismene in W.A. Mozart’s Mitridate at the opera festival in Granada, Spain, conducted by Harry Christophers and directed by Fransisco Negrin.

Her opera repertoire includes Romilda (Xerxes by George Frideric Handel), Gretchen (Hänsel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck) , Pamina, Königin (Die Zauberflöte by W.A. Mozart), Olympia (Les contes d’Hoffmann by Offenbach), Gabriele (La vie parisienne by Offenbach), Gasparina (Il Campiello by Wolf-Ferrari) and Kaye (Kafka’s chimp by Metcalf).

Cecilia Nanneson has become much sought after as a concert and oratorio singer appearing both in Sweden and abroad. She has performed with renowned conductors like Thomas Hengelbrock, Christophe Rousset, Stefan Solyom and Marcus Bosch and orchestras such as Württembergische Philharmonie and RBO Leipzig. With Batzdorfer Hofkapelle she has made a CD recording of La pace di Camberga by Johann David Heinichen. Together with Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques she has performed François Couperin’s Leçons de Ténèbres and Lamentazione by Leonarndo Leo.

Cecilia Nanneson has an extensive repertoire including all the major oratorios by J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart and Haydn, as well as Stabat Mater (Giovanni Battista Pergolesi), Messe Solenelle (Rossini), Elijah (Felix Mendelssohn), Te Deum (Charpentier), German Requiem (Johannes Brahms), Peer Gynt (Grieg) and Carmina Burana (Orff). She is also a keen lieder singer, performing music from Baroque to contemporary.
