The New Zealander soprano, Emily Mwila, studied at Tawa College (2004-2008). She graduated from New Zealand College of Massage in 2010. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in German Language and Literature, Asian Studies minoring in Japanese and Linguistics from Victoria University of Wellington (2011-2014). She has been studying voice under the tutelage of Flora Edwards for the past six years (2010-2016). She has been selected for the Lexus Song Quest master-class series twice and in 2015 was a semi-finalist in the McDonald’s Operatic Aria Competition in Sydney.
Emily Mwila made her debut performance as Zerlina in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni in Wellington in 2016. Earlier in 2016, she auditioned successfully, also gaining a scholarship, for the International Vocal Arts Institute summer programme, which took place in New York City in June. In 2016, she moved the USA to undertake Master of Music degree Vocal Performance at Mannes College The New School for Music in New York (expected graduation in 2019). |
