Andrew Morgan (Tenor)

Born: USA

The American tenor and stage director, Andrew Morgan obtained his Bachelor of Education-Music from the Northern Illinois University, where he studied Music Education and Vocal Performance (1983-1987); his Master of Music dgree in Vocal Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1989-1991).

Andrew Morgan is a classical tenor singer since 1991. He has appeared with numerous groups throughout the Bay Area, including Chanticleer, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra (Directors: Nicholas McGegan/Richard Egarr), American Bach Soloists (Director: Jeffrey Thomas), Magnificat, the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, California Bach Society, Camerata Singers of Monterey, Sanford Dole Ensemble, and West Marin Music Festival. On stage, he has appeared with the Berkeley Opera, Sonoma City Opera, West Bay Opera, and the apparently smaller-scaled Pocket Opera, among others, in roles ranging from Ferrando in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte to Tony in Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story. No stranger to contemporary music, Morgan has created roles in several premiere operas, including The Dreamers by David Conte and Philip Litell.

Andrew Morgan, who has whiled away many an afternoon translating ancient motets, came forward into the world of stage directing in 1996 with the latter company and a production of Charles Gounod's The Doctor in Spite of Himself. As a stage director, he has worked with such companies as Pocket Opera, Berkeley Opera, and Bay Shore Lyric Opera. Most recently, he staged a critically acclaimed production of Donizetti's Elixir of Love for Livermore Valley Opera. Other notable productions include Janacek's Jenufa (San Francisco City Opera) and Rossini's Italian Girl in Algiers (Riot Grrrl on Mars, Berkeley Opera). He served as Executive Director of American Bach Soloists for 6 years (February 2002-February 2008); Director of Leadership Gifts in San Francisco Opera for 6 years (February 2008-March 2014); Director of Individual and Leadership Giving in San Francisco Opera (since March 2014).
