The Cantorij Monnickendam, under the direction of conductor Marcel den Dulk, focuses mainly on the performance of the great classical oratorios, such as the Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, the Gloria by Felix Mendelssohn, Messiah by George Frideric Handel, Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) and Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach. In addition, recent choral works by still living composers are on the repertoire, such as John Rutter and Karl Jenkins. In December 2017, Petite Messe solennelle by G. Rossini was performed in a special adaptation by conductor Marcel den Dulk.
Every year the choir performs two concerts at the Grote Kerk in Monnickendam, in collaboration with professional soloists and the Nationaal Symfonisch Kamerorkest. A tradition is the annual Easter performance of Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) by J.S. Bach. In 2019 around Easter, however Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach is on the program. The autumn concerts have varying programming. Incidentally, part of the Cantorij Monnickendam supports choirs in the region for performances that require a larger occupation.
The Cantorij Monnickendam also takes the initiative in carrying out various other activities, such as organizing the annual Korendag Monnickendam and organizing workshops for upcoming singers.
The Cantorij Monnickendam was founded in 1949 and celebrated its 65th anniversary with a concert at the Grote Kerk in Monnickendam. |
