The Swiss mezzo-soprano, Christelle Monney, began her musical training on the piano. Following an undergraduate degree in Geology and Gemology, she decided to pursue her singing, joining the class of Maria Diaconu at Geneva University of Music (2004-2007) and obtaining her diploma there in 2007. She then continued her studies with mezzo-soprano Isabelle Henriquez. She undertook several seasons in the opera chorus at Lausanne and the Grand Théâtre of Geneva (2006-2012), and then began to focus on oratorio. Building on her own practice as a singing teacher and coach, she qualified as a registered Breathing Coordination mdh practitioner in 2014.
Christelle Monney collaborates regularly with Geneva-based ensembles Gli Angeli Genève (Director: Stephan MacLeod; since 2012), Ensemble Vocal de Poche (2010-2014) and Cantatio. She was recently invited to join the choir of Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Director: Jos van Veldhoven) for a tour of eleven performances of J.S. Bach’s St Matthew Passion (BWV 244). She is also a keen interpreter of contemporary music, notably with ensembles Séquence, Polhymnia, l’Horizon Chimérique, and is open to all new musical experiences!
As a soloist, Christelle regularly performs the major oratorios and cantatas of J.S. Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann, as well the works of Monteverdi, George Frideric Handel, Purcell, Dietrich Buxtehude and Antonio Vivaldi, and the liturgical works of W.A. Mozart, Haydn, Robert Schumann and Rossini. She particularly enjoys performing chamber music and has given duo recitals with piano, harp and guitar. In 2010, she co-founded the duo Hush! with guitarist Marie Chabbey to present an intimate repertoire ranging from Dowland to Piazzola. |
