The American tenor, Marc Molomot, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York in 1991.
Possessed of a rare high-tenor (haute-contre) voice, and a stage persona that comfortably embraces both comedic and dramatic roles, Marc Molomot enjoys an international opera and concert career. While well known for appearances with early music ensembles and conductors, including William Christie, John Eliot Gardiner, Nicholas McGegan, Andrew Parrott, Apollo’s Fire, Les Boréades, and Les Goûts Réunis, Marc ventures far beyond the Baroque, performing repertoire from W.A. Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and Auber’s 1830 opera Fra Diavolo to the title role in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring; the protagonist in Evan Ziporyn’s 2009 A House in Bali; and a new role in Jean-Marc Singier’s Chat perché, presented in March 2011 at Paris’s Amphithéâtre Bastille and on tour in France and Switzerland. Notable debuts in 2012 included Carmina Burana for both the Houston Symphony Orchestra and Kansas City Symphony. The Houston Carmina led to an immediate re-engagement for the role of Der Hauptmann in a concert version of Alban Berg’s Wozzeck. In 2013 he makes his Milwaukee Symphony debut in Schubert’s Mass No. 6 in E-flat.
Marc Molomot’s comedic gifts have been showcased in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea (Les Arts Florissants and William Christie); Offenbach’s Les brigands (Opéra Toulon and Paris’s Opéra Comique with François-Xavier Roth), and Francis Poulenc’s Les mamelles de Tirésias (Opéra de Lyon and Opéra Comique with Ludovic Morlot). Concert appearances have included the USA premiere of Dov Seltzer’s Lament to Yitzhak with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, and signature performances of the Evangelist in J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion (BWV 245) and St. Matthew Passions (BWV 244) - most recently with Andrew Parrott in New York; Kraków, Poland; Tel Aviv, Israel; and Trondheim, Norway.
Marc Molomot’s recording of Lully’s Thésée with the Boston Early Music Festival was nominated for a Grammy. He is also featured on recordings with Les Arts Florissants, Les Boréades, and Apollo’s Fire.
Marc Molomot is married to Edward Willis since May 21, 2013. He lives in Kerhonkson, New York. |
