National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova (Chamber Orchestra)

Born: 1989 - Chisinau, Moldova

The National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova (Moldovan: Orchestra națională de cameră) is hosted at the Organ Hall in Chisinau. The Organ Hall, located in one of the most beautiful buildings in the centre of the city, is the leading cultural artistic institution.

The Orchestra´s exceptional activity is of great importance to the spiritual life of Moldovan capital, thanks to events/ festivals, contests, etc./, whose impact go well beyond the national scene. The National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova is renowned for its many performances in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Turkey, Israel, USA, Jordan; its high interpretive skill and wide repertoire are applauded to across the world.

The National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova was founded in the spring of 1998 by the conductor Alfred Ghershfeld (subsequently established in the USA), and currently collaborates with such conductors as Gh. Mustea, V. Doni, M. Secichin, O. Palymski. The Romanian cellist and conductor Cristian Florea is very linked to the ensemble’s destiny - he was conductor of the orchestra between 1995 and 2000 and since 2010 has been conducting it as principal conductor.

The Orchestra members are graduates of Music Institutes from Chişinău, Moscow, Nijnii Novgorod. Each musician pursues concurrently a career as a concert vocalist as well as a member in various instrumental chamber ensembles: string trios, quartets, quintets, piano ensembles, clavesin, and brass instruments.

The National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova performed with prestigious guest conductors and vocalists among which are: pianist Dan Grigore, Horia Mihail, violinists Gabriel Croitoru, Alexandru Tomescu (Romania), pianist Dana Ciocârlie (Romania/France), violinist Eugen Sârbu (Romania/Great Britain), conductors Patrick Strub (Germany) and Misha Kats (France), organist Andrzej Chorosinski and pianist Tadeusz Domanowski (Poland), pianists Alexander Paley (USA), Michel Dalberto, Laure Favre-Kahn, Jean-Bernard Pommier (France), Dang Thai Son (Vietnam/Canada), Konstantin Lifschitz (Germany), Guigla Katsarava (Georgia/France), violinists Marine Iashvili (Georgia/Russia/, Liana Isakadze (Georgia/Germany), Aiman Musahodjaeva (Kazahstan) and Oleh Krysa ( USA), cellist Ştefan Popov ( Great Britain), cellists Alexander Rudin, Alexander Kniazev and pianist Evghenii Mikhailov ( Russia), violinist and conductor Vladimir Vladimir Spivakov (Russia), who especially appreciated the high professionalism of the ochestra, and the famous conductor Gilbert Varga (Switzerland).

Among the most important artistic achievements of the National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova is recording of a CD in collaboration with a French trumpeter Bernard Soustrot which was launched at the Theâtre Montansier, Versailles. As members of the European Symphonic Orchestra also founded by Cristian Florea, musicians of the National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova had the honor to accompany such world celebrated tenors as Plácido Domingo and Jose Carreras, mezzosoprana Teresa Berganza on various famous European stages.

The Orchestra´s repertoire includes chamber music from preclassical to contemporary composers and operas in concert version: Der Schauspieldirektor, Die Zauberflote, La Clemenza di Tito by W.A. Mozart; vocal-symphony works: Die Jahreszeiten by F.J. Haydn, Matthaus-Passion (BWV 244), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248), Mass in B minor (BWV 232) by J.S. Bach, Kronungsmesse by W.A. Mozart, Ungarischen Kronungsmesse by Franz Liszt, etc.

On September 4, 2011 the National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova performed with great success in Bucharest at Ateneul Român in the edition of the International «George Enescu» festival (the 20th anniversary edition) with a programme: Sigismund Toduţa's Concerto No. 1 for the string orchestra, Leonard Bernstein's Serenada for violin solo, string orchestra, harp and percussion («Banchetul» by Platon), Boris Dubosarschi's The Chamber Symphony for string Orchestra, string quartet and timpani.
