The English mezzo-soprano, Eleanor Minney, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Studies a First Class Honours from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. Upon graduating was also recipient of the Wilfred Greenhouse Allt college prize for Cantata and Oratorio for her performance in J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245).
Eleanor Minney is experienced in Opera, Musical Theatre, Oratorio, Contemporary, close harmony ensemble, classical ensemble, etc. Recent solo engagements include J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244), B Minor Mass (BWV 232) and Cantata BWV 198 Trauer-Ode with Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the English Baroque Soloists, J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) and Monteverdi’s Vespers with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Robert Schumann's Paradies und die Peri with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, and George Frideric Handel's Messiah with the Mormon Metropolitan Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City, Utah. Other recent solo work includes W.A. Mozart's Requiem (St Martin-in-the-fields), J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245) and Magnificat (BWV 243) (Greenwich Baroque Orchestra), Jenkins' Imagined Oceans (TCM), G.F. Handel's The Triumph of Time and Truth (Greenwich International Early Music Festival), Daniel-Lesur's Cantique de Cantiques (BBC Proms 2010), etc.
Operatic roles include Ninfa/Proserpina in Monteverdi L'Orfeo, Ruggiero in G.F. Handel's Alcina, Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, Fanny Price in Dove's Mansfield Park, Mercedes in Georges Bizet's Carmen (April 2013), Claretta in Leoncavallo's Zaza. Other recent opera and musical theatre credits include Mabel in Pirates of Penzance, Lina Lamont in Singin' in the Rain, Luctretia in Benjamin Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, Amanzio in G.F. Handel's Giustino, Second Witch in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.
In recital Eleanor Minney performs regularly with Baroque violinist Davina Clarke, and solo recitals at London's St. Martin-in-the-fields, Cadogan Hall, St. George’s Hanover Square, and New York’s Weill Recital room at Carnegie Hall. She is currently a young artist and resident recitalist for the Handel House Museum.
Future solo engagements include a European tour and SDG recording of J.S. Bach Magnificat (BWV 243) with the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists, a reprisal of her role as Ninfa/Proserpina in L’Orfeo in Trondheim, Norway, with I Fagiolini, recording the complete Verse Anthems by Orlando Gibbons with Fretworl Viols and J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245) with Britten Sinfonia, Easter 2017.
Eleanor Minney's Has worked as a soloist/ensemble with many of the UK's leading ensembles, including BBC Symphony Orchestra, Greenwich Baroque Orchestra, Endymion, Hilliard Ensemble, etc. She is also a busy consort singer and enjoys a variety of repertoire with the The Monteverdi Choir (Director: John Eliot Gardiner), I Fagiolini (Director: Robert Hollingworth), The Tallis Scholars (Director: Peter Phillips), Galicantus, Tenebrae (Director: Nigel Short), and BBC Singers (since 2014). She is also experienced in Jazz, Pop and Musical Theatre. She has Has performed live as a backing singer for a number of solo artists, including Imogen Heap, Amanda Holden and Andrew Swait. Recording experience includes numerous projects with Boosey and Hawkes, Warner Music, and the BBC. Light, lyric mezzo soprano voice, with good range and excellent sight reading ability. She currently lives in London, England. |
