The Canadian harpsichordist and fortepianist, Mélisande McNabney,
is a Graduate of McGill University and the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal. She was granted her Master’s degree from the Amsterdam Conservatory in June 2010, where she studied harpsichord, continuo and fortepiano in the classes of Bob van Asperen and Richard Egarr. She was granted her Doctorate degree at McGill University in May 2017, under the guidance of Hank Knox and Tom Beghin, thanks to the support of the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships Program. She has received scholarships from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Banff Centre, the FQRSC and the CALQ. In August 2015, she received the third prize at the International Competition Musica Antiqua in Bruges, Belgium.
Mélisande McNabney performs keyboard music of all periods, on harpsichord, piano and fortepiano. She has performed hundreds of concerts, whether as a soloist or chamber musician, in Canada, the USA, Europe and Asia in prestigious concert series. Currently based in Montreal, she is regularly invited to play with ensembles such as Les Violons du Roy (Director: Bernard Labadie), Arion Baroque Orchestra, Les Idées heureuses (Director: Geneviève Soly), Theatre of Early Music (Director: Daniel Taylor), and Ensemble Caprice (Director: Matthias Maute). She is also the founder and artistic director of the concert series La Dauphine,and a member of Pallade Musica (a quartet consists of Tanya LaPerrière, Baroque violin, Elinor Frey, Baroque cello, Esteban La Rotta, theorbo, and Mélisande McNabney, harpsichord) and Ensemble Les Songes, on tour across the country with Jeunesses Musicales Canada in the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 seasons.
Mélisande McNabney comed from a musical family. Her father, the violist Douglas McNabney, is Artistic Director of the Toronto Summer Music Festival and Academy. Her brother, Raphael, is the double-bass player with Les Violons du Roy. |
