Matúš Mazár (Baritone)

Born: Michalovce, Slovak

The Slovak baritone, Matúš Mazár, studied opera singing at the Košické Konzervatoř with Marián Lukáč. In 2010 he took 3rd place at All-Slovak Conservatory Competition in Žilina, in 2013 3rd place at the Imrich Godin International Singing Competition Iuventus Canti in Vrábly and also participated in the International Musica Sacra Singing Competition in Rome, where he fought his way to 120 competitors until final twelve and won the "Giovane Promessa" prize awarded to the youngest contestant. In 2014, he won the 3rd Prize at the Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary and a special prize, a scholarship at the Gaetano Donizetti Music School in Milan.

In 2012, Matúš Mazár completed a concert tour in Cyprus with the World Youth Choir. There he began his collaboration with a conductor named Iñaki Encina Oyón. In 2013 he performed in France in the operas Mascagni's Zanetto and von Weber's Abu Hassan and also in the Košice State Philharmonic. While still a student, he began collaborating with the Košice State Theater, where he made his debut as Lovce in Dvořák's Rusalka and later also appeared as Marco in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and Marullo in Verdi's Rigoletto. He is currently studying with Roman Janál at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where appeared as Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. In 2014 he performed in Christmas concerts in Munich, Nuremberg and Mannheim, in 2015 he performed as Tevere and Genio in the opera Costanza e Fortezza with the Musica Florea orchestra under the baton of Marek Štryncl and completed master-classes with Renato Bruson in Arezzo. He is a member of the Chamber Choir of Europe.
