The French pianist, Jovanka Marville, was attracted by the music of the 17th and 19th centuries already during her studies of piano. She naturally turned to the harpsichord and early instruments by studying primarily with Christiane Jaccottet at the Conservatoire de Genève, where she obtained a First Prize in harpsichord, and with Johann Sonnleitner in Zürich. Subsequently, she had the chance to meet during master-classes, musicians like Andreas Staier (pianoforte), Jesper Christensen (bass), Rudolf Lutz (improvisation). In 1989, she won the International Competition of Bruges.
Jovanka Marville has performed regularly as a soloist and chamber musician, and as a continuo player in various orchestras (Ensemble Vocal et Instrumental de Lausanne, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, among others). She often gives concerts in pianoforte, especially because she loves the works of Mozart, Haydn and early L.v. Beethoven. She also enjoys exploring the clavichord infinite possibilities for expression and sensitivity.
Her first recording devoted entirely to the works of François Couperin was recorded on the magnificent Museum of Ruckers harpsichord and Neuchâtel. A second CD, warmly welcomed by critics, was published in 2007 under the label æon with essentially pieces of Louis Couperin, played on a harpsichord by Louis Denis exceptional dating from 1658. A CD of selected excerpts from the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book for harpsichord and virginal was released recently by the same label.
Since 2000, Jovanka Marville teaches harpsichord and basso continuo at the École de Musique de Lausanne. |
