Sandra Marks (Mezzo-soprano, Contralto)

Born: Germany

The German mezzo-soprano/contralto, Sandra Marks, received her musical training at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock the main subject singing under Professor Christiane Leß-Brandau and in the Lied class of Professor Karola Theill. In 2002 she completed her artistic degree with a diploma and then continued her studies in postgraduate studies dor the concert exam with Christiane Bach-Röhr.

At the beginning of her studies, Sandra Mark's first concert invitations transcended national borders. This quickly developed into a regular collaboration with numerous symphony orchestras and Baroque ensembles, such as the Hamburger Camerata, Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, Magdeburger Philharmoniker, the Händel-Festspielorchester Halle/Saale, Elbipolis Barockorchester Hamburg, Brandenburger Symphoniker, Kölner Akademie (Director: Michael Willens), Ensemble Ausonia Belgium and many more.

Her vocal flexibility and ensemble ability, which allows her a wide range from Renaissance to contemporary music, makes Sandra Marks a sought-after partner of chamber music and vocal ensembles. So she is a regular guest at international festivals early music and chamber music podiums and has sung at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Händelfestspielen Halle, Thüringer Bachwochen, Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, Alessandro Scarlatti Festival Palermo (Italy), "Klaaspärlimäng" Music Festival Pärnu (Estonia) and the Festival Songes d'Annot (France).

Together with the renowned British Hilliard Ensemble Sandra Marks performed in 2014 the alto part in Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach at the Berliner Dom under the direction of Domkantor Tobias Brommann in the frame of the farewell tour of the ensemble.

In addition to the Baroque oratorios and cantatas J.S. Bach and his contemporaries, Sandra Marks performs intensively the motets of the early Baroque, which she already directed during her studies with self-founded vocal ensembles through many churches in Mecklenburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Of particular concern to her is the music of North German composers, in particular Georg Philipp Telemann, whose Matthäus-Passion, she sang together with the Ensemble Kölner Akademie, conducted by Michael Willens at the Telemann Festtagen Magdeburg, among others. Together with the Franco-German Renaissance ensemble "Trobar e Cantar", the "Ensemble in Residence" of the Festival Songes d'Annot 2013, she was invited to record the rondeaux and motets of the last great trouvère Adam de la Halle as the first complete recording. She is a member of Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart (Directors: Helmuth Rilling & Hans-Christoph Rademann).

Since the winter term 2014-2015, Sandra Marks is a lecturer for main subject singing, singing didactics, literature and teaching practice at the Institut für Musik der Hochschule Osnabrück, succeeding Professor Andreas Mohr.
