Weimar is the birthplace of the special ensemble Mitteldeutsche Kammerorchester (Central German Chamber Orchestra). As students of the Musikhochschule "Franz Liszt", founded in 1987, during their music studies, this chamber orchestra at the suggestion of concertmaster Andreas Hartmann und KMD Professor Wolfgang Kupke. They chose for their programmes the symphonic music of the 18th and 19th centuries. Furthermore, a very practical range was on the menu of the new musical ensemble: the accompaniment of oratorio literature, the focus of every free-lance orchestra.
Today, the musicians of that time are sitting in the first panels of the leading orchestras in the former East Germany. In the MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Orchester des Opernhauses Halle, Staatsorchester Halle, Staatskapelle Weimar and Orchester des Magdeburger Landestheaters, the musicians work in their permanent positions. Despite the high artistic demands, the musicians involved keep the desire for something special, in particular chamber orchestra "live".
In recent years, grew up alongside their work as an accompanying orchestra for choral-symphonic works, the need to prepare purely orchestral programmes for various concert series. They are welcome guests at the Kölner Philharmonie, Klosterkonzerten Maulbronn, Barockfesten Würzburg, Braunschweiger Kammermusikpodium and Thüringer Bachwochen. Together with the Thomanerchor Leipzig they frequently perform at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig in the cyclical performance of the J.S. Bach's Cantatas. Several times they accompanied the winners of the International Bach Competition at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig.
In addition to numerous radio and television recordings, the Mitteldeutsche Kammerorchester is also present on the CD’s with recordings of works by Antonio Vivaldi, W.A. Mozart and, of course, J.S. Bach |
