Kim Leeds (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Naperville, Chicago area, Illinois, USA

The American mezzo-soprano, Kimberly Anne Sizer Leeds (Kim Leeds), received her Master of Music in Vocal Pedagogy and Performance from the Boston Conservatory in 2014.

Noted for her “rich timbre and flexible voice”, Kim Leeds has appeared as a soloist in numerous concert performances, most recently in J.S. Bach's Mass in B Minor (BWV 232) with the American Bach Soloists Academy, Jan Dismas Zelenka's Missa Omnium Sanctorum with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Choir, George Frideric Handel's Israel in Egypt with Cantata Singers and J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) with Music at Marsh Chapel. Some of her most recent operatic roles include playing the Owl in Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen at the Boston Conservatory, the title role in Gabriella Snyder's The Rough Faced Girl, with Snyder Productions, and The Wife in the world premiere of Ronnie Reshef's Requiem for the Living at Mannes School of Music.

In addition to multiple contemporary performances, Kim Leeds performs a wealth of early and Baroque music. In 2010 she performed a set of staged French cantatas with Musica Nuova and attended the Amhearst Early Music Festival with the ensemble as artist-in-residence. She was also a core member of Cappella Clausura from 2009-2012 and performed as Misericordia/Amor Celestis on their highly lauded performance of Hildegard von Bingen’s Ordo Virtutum. She recently covered the role of Apollo in the North American premiere of G.F. Handel's Parnasso in Festa with the American Bach Soloists Academy. As a choral artist, she has toured Italy and Germany with the JSB Ensemble (Junges Stuttgarter Bach Ensemble) under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann, performed with both the Berwick Chorus and Berwick Chorale at the Oregon Bach Festival, and toured Eastern Germany under the direction of Helmuth Rilling at the Weimar Bach Academy. She will be attending the Carmel Bach Festival this summer as a Virginia Best Adams Fellow. She currently lives in Watertown, Massachusetts.

"Almost exclusively a choral piece, the All-Night Vigil resorted to solos rarely and briefly... alto Kim Leeds was a solid prima inter pares." - Boston Classical Review
