The Polish mezzo-soprano, Dorota Lachowicz, is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Lódź. She won an honourable mention at the 5th Ada Sari Vocal Competition.
Dorota Lachowicz began her operatic career at the Grand Theatre in Lódź as Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. She has taken part in numerous prestigious festivals, including the Warsaw Autumn Contemporary Music Festival, the Wratislavia Cantans, the ‘Gaude Mater’ Sacred Music Festival in Czechoslovakia and the International Telemann Festival in Pszczyna. She has worked with prominent conductors such as H. Wünnerberg, Helmuth Rilling, Nello Santi and Jacek Kaspszyk, and pedagogues Joseph Elsner from Dresden and Adele Stolte from Stuttgart. She has participated in master-classes given by outstanding singers Nelly Anfuso and Fedora Barbieri. She has appeared in the title role in a film version of excepts of George Frideric Handel ‘s Rinaldo and has taken part in CD recordings of Missa Solemnis and Litany to the Virgin Mary by the 19th-century Polish composer Wojciech Dankowski, Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Francesca Caccini’s La liberazione di Rugierro dall’isola d’Alcina. The last disc won a nomination for the Frederyck Award of the Polish music industry in 1996.
Dorota Lachowicz is now (1999) a soloist of the Warsaw Chamber Opera, where she made her debut as Penelope in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria and as Third Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. She also appeared in the oratorio and cantata repertoire. She feels equally at home with chamber music. |
