Carmela Konrad (Soprano)

Born: Switzeland

The Swiss soprano, Carmela Konrad, studied the guitar with Professor Jean-Pierre Reynders and graduated in 2004 . At the same time she commenced to study singing with Professor Liliane Zürcher at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts - Music, graduating in 2006 with a cum laude. She is continuing her studies by taking master-classes with Krisztina Láki, Jakob Stämpfli and Sibylla Rubens. In 2006, she won a promotion prize from the city Wels in Austria, and in 2007 she won the 1st prize from the Elvira Lüthi-Wegmann Foundation of Switzerland. 2012 she was prize-winner from the Marianne and Curt Dienemann-Stiftung Switzerland. Another passion of Carmela Konrad is painting.

Since 2000 Carmela Konrad has been singing as a soloist and also in chambermusic groups in Switzerand, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Italy and Egypt. She is also known as an interpreter of modern music, and has sung different worldpremiers of swiss composers for example Enrico Lavarini, Thüring Bräm, Philipp Fankhauser and Luigi Laveglia.

In Concert-, Lieder- and Operettaevenings she fascinates the public with her interpretations for example of: Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, for the opening concert of the german culture weeks at the Operahouse in Cairo and for the opening celebration of the 850-year Birthday of city Munich; Johannes Brahms Requiem, W.A. Mozart Requiem and c-minor Mass in Switzerland, Germany and Austria with Bach Collegium Zürich and Bernhard Hunziker; J.S. Bach Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen (BWV 51) with Frits Damrow; J.S. Bach Weichet nur, betrübte Schatten (BWV 202) and Mer han en neue Oberkeet (BWV 212) with Stiftsbarock Stuttgart and Kay Johannsen; Christmas in Lucerne with the Swiss Brass Consort in KKL Lucerne; the role of Crescentia in the worldpremier of the Oratorio Vitus by Enrico Lavarini; the role of the Adept 1 in the world premiere of the Opera Il gong magico by Thüring Bräm; Modest Mussorgsky’s Kinderstube with the ArgeTon-Orchestra Zurich; George Frideric Handel's Messiah in the version of W.A. Mozart with the Duna Budapest Orchestra. Liederabende with Mikhail Berlin and Gebrüder Stenzl ...

Carmela Konrad also collaborates with the swiss author Max Huwyler, the artist Niklaus Lenherr, and she has also sung for the film Birth realeased in 2009 for the swiss film makers Silvia Haselbeck and Erich Langjahr. 2014 she illustrated the guitar playbook Unterm Sternenzelt by Philipp Leon Fankhauser
