The Australian baritone, Alexander Knight, graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Performance Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2011. He is in his final year of an Advanced Diploma of Opera at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (2013), and is currently studying with Maree Ryan, Chair of Vocal Studies and Opera, at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He has recently performed with many Australian ensembles in venues around NSW and the ACT, including Penrith Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, Sydney Chamber Choir, Sydney University Graduate Choir as a featured soloist, and the Song Company.
Last year (2012) Alexander received the audience prize and was a finalist in the IFAC Australian Singing Competition, and sang the role of Aeneas alongside Fiona Campbell in Purcell's Dido & Aeneas with Sydney Philharmonia. Operatic roles have included Bob in Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief and Figaro in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at the Sydney Con, Aeneas in Purcell's Dido & Aeneas, Uberto in Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's La Serva Padrona with Penrith Symphony, Arthur/Officer 3 in Peter Maxwell-Davies' The Lighthouse and the the principal role of the Gamekeeper (Forester) in Janacek's The Cunning Little Vixen with Sydney Chamber Opera (2011), a concert version of Georges Bizet's Carmen with Brett Weymark and the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, and Nicolai's opera Die Lustigen Weiber Von Windsor as a principal artist. He also had the pleasure of performing as soloist in the world premiere of Matthew Orlovich's Communion of Reparations..
Concert appearances have included Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, Johannes Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem, J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245) (with the Sydney Chamber Choir, 2012), Magnificat (BWV 243) and Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah and Paulus, (with the Sydney Uni Graduate Choir, 2012), Ralph Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols, the Requiems of Gabriel Fauré and W.A. Mozart, Schubert's Mass in E-flat, George Frideric Handel’s Messiah and Saul, Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai and Nelson Mass, L.v. Beethoven’s Mass in C and Symphony No. 9, B. Britten’s Rejoice In The Lamb, Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers. In 2011, he was a soloist for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra's opening season performances of Grieg's Peer Gynt under the baton of Vladimir Ashkenazy, and a soloist in W.A. Mozart's Requiem with Manly-Warringah Choir, and also at Christ Church St. Laurence. In the same year, he was a soloist with Coro Innominata for their performance of J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243). |
