The German tenor, Helmut [Helmuth] Klotz, studied at the Musikhochschule Dresden specialising in singing as as student of H. Fischer, and he also studied cello.
Helmut Klotz made his stage debut in 1960 at the Sächsischen Landesbühnen Dresden-Radebeul as Peter Ivanov in Zar und Zimmermann by Lortzing. In addition to his work as a singer in the ensemble, he was employed there at the same time as cellist in the orchestra. In 1961 he was engaged at the Opera House of Leipzig, where he performed numerous roles in the lyrical and the character repertoire. He toured with the ensemble of the Leipzig Opera to Yugoslavia and Cuba, and was a guest also in Bucharest. In 1968-1969 he was active again as a cellist in the orchestra, now the Staatskapelle Dresden. In december 1992, he appeared in Leipzig in his 250th Anniversary of the stage, in his great roles of David in Meistersinger, Steuermann in Fliegenden Holländer, Belmonte in Entführung aus dem Serail, Hauptmann in Alban Berg’s Wozzeck and the Fox in Cunning Little Vixen by Janácek. In addition to his work on the stage, this multi-talented artist, performed as well as concert and oratorio singer and has headed since 1973, the Leipzig Synagogalchor.
