The Hungarian soprano, Noémi Kiss, studied at the Academy of Music in Budapest and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Her teachers in England were Nancy Argenta, Emma Kirkby and Jessica Glynn.
Noémi Kiss' repertoire is wide-ranging, from Renaissance songs through European Baroque to contemporary music. She has performed in many of Europe's concert halls. Her concert engagements take her to many of Europe's festivals and include appearances in Iceland, Norway and Israel. She has had a successful co-operation with the Slovakian early music group Solamente Naturali, performing together in numerous countries. Her roles include George Frideric Handel's Ezio and Xerxes and Messiah and J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) at the Concertgebouw, as well as Haydn's L'infedelta delusa, W.A. Mozart's c-minor Mass, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and Monteverdi's Orfeo. She sang Soprano at the historic staged performance of Jan Dismas Zelenka's Sub Olea Pacis in the Prague castle, whose recording won a MIDEM prize.
Noémi Kiss appears on a number of early music recordings. These include first editions of music by Charpentier, Zelenka, Hasse, Istvanffy, Kraus and Carissimi. Her recent recording of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Marian Vespers with Choir of New College, Oxford and The Academy of Ancient Music under Edward Higginbottom was nominated for both the Gramophone Award and the Classical Grammy Award. On her latest albums she sings Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria with the Nidaros Cathedral's Girls' Choir and the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra, conducted by Edward Higginbottom; and contemporary music: Stale Kleiberg's Requiem with Michael McCarthy and the Choirs of the Washington Cathedral. |
