The German baritone, Johannes Kammler, graduated in 2008 from the Music High School at St. Stephan in Augsburg, and went appreaed there several times as a bass soloist with arias and Lieder at school concerts. Already at 5 he began a thorough musical training with the Augsburger Domsingknaben. With the vocal support of his father, Domkapellmeister Reinhard Kammler, he sang as alto several times at the Deutschen Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, the 3rd boy in W.A. Mozart's Zauberflöte, in many foreign concert engagements including The boy's solo in Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, the boy's solo in Orff's Osteroratorium at the Münchner Prinzregententheater, many alto arias in J.S. Bach's oratorios and cantatas and a CD recording of Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel und Gretel as Hansel in Abendsegen (Evening Prayer).
After the change of his voice until 2009, Johannes Kammler had singing lessons with Ulrich Streckmann, vocal trainer and choir director of the Augsburger Domsingknaben. In their traditional J.S. Bach concerts, his father entrusted him soon with the major solo bass roles in Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) and the B Minor Mass (BWV 232). On the CD of the male voices of the Augsburger Domsingknaben "Gott und die Welt" and on the CD with Otto Jochum's Weihnachtssinge his young bass voice is also heard on solo. With the Kammerchor der Augsburger Domsingknaben, he performed as alto and bass in numerous concerts in Germany, other European countries and in Canada, Ecuador and South Africa. In December 2009, he sang as a bass soloist with the Augsburger Domsingknaben under the baton of Reinhard Kammler at the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican in the presence of Pope Benedict XVI and the Federal President Horst Köhler Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach. A CD from this special concert has been released on the label Ars Musici.
Since winter 2009-2010, Johannes Kammler studied at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg majoring in singing with Professor Markus Goritzki. He sontinued his studies in Toronto, Canada with James Patrick Raftery. He dis his postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Professor Rudolf Piernay. He was Samling Artist and Britten-Pears Young Artist. He is regularly enhancing his education by participating in masterclasses e.g. with Professor Edith Wiens, Wolfgang Holzmair and Imogen Cooper, Emma Kirkby or Graham Johnson. He was finalist of the international song competition Das Lied in Berlin 2015, and won second prize at the famous international competition Neue Stimmen in October 2017.
Johannes Kammler is already in demand at renowned addresses and is equally committed to opera, Lied and concert. For example, he has been invited for concerts as a soloist with the Berliner Philharmoniker, Bayerisches Staatsorchester, London Symphony Orchestra as well as Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar de Venezuela under conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Gustavo Dudamel, Kirill Petrenko, Sir Mark Elder and Marin Alsop have taken him to London, Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Baden-Baden, Porto, Moscow, Caracas and Los Angeles so far. Future tasks include recitals at Wigmore Hall, Schloss Elmau, or De Doelen Rotterdam; his role debuts, e.g. in Barbiere, Arabella, From The House Of The Dead, Georges Bizet's Carmen and Les Vêpres Siciliennes at the Bavarian State Opera. Johannes has also had notable performances with Monteverdi's L’Orfeo with the Royal Opera in the Roundhouse London, with Puccini’s Manon Lescaut at the Easter Festival in Baden-Baden and with Benjamin Britten's War Requiem in the Royal Festival Hall London.
In August 2015, Johannes debuted at the Verbier Festival as Marcello in Puccini's La Boheme. In the summer of 2016, he was engaged at Den Norske Opera in Oslo for a scenic production (Calixto Bieito) of B. Britten's War Requiem. In October 2016, he was invited by the renowned Oxford Songs Festival for a recital together with Roger Vignoles, with whom he has since been engaged throughout Europe for joint recitals. In the 2016-2017 season Johannes has sung Haydn's Creation under Gustavo Dudamel at the Disney Concert Hall with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as under Thomas Hengelbrock with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra as part of the opening of the new Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. With roles like Ruggiero in Halévy's La Juive, John Sorel in Menotti's The Consul, or Scherasmin in Weber's Oberon at the Bavarian State Opera the promising baritone received excellent reviews without exception. In the summer of 2017 he made his role debut as Belcore in Donizetti`s L`Elisir D`Amore at the New Generation Festival in Florence.
After a two year`s affiliation to the studio of Bavarian State Opera in Munich (since 2015-2016 season), Johannes Kammler joined the ensemble in September 2017. In this position he has been able to work with important conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Bertrand de Billy, Oksana Lyniv, Andrea Battistoni, Asher Fish, Marco Armiliato, Constantin Trinks, or Ivor Bolton. He caused quite a sensation and received important offers, such as his house- and role-debut as Guglielmo in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto in 2018-2019 season, or to participate in a concert version of Gottfried von Einem`s opera Der Prozess at Salzburg Festival in summer 2018 for example.From the 2018-2019 season, he will join the ensemble of Stuttgart Opera with such roles as Guglielmo, Malatesta or Marcello. |
