Augsburger Domsinknaben (Boys’ Choir)

Originally founded: 1439 - Augsburg, Germany
Re-founded: 1976 - Augsburg, Germany

The tradition of choir singing at the Augsburg Mariendom goes back all the way to the 15th century. Domsingknaben or "Cathedral Boy Singers" were mentioned for the first time in a document in 1439. Referring to the Cathedral's patron saint, the young boys called themselves "Marianer". This tradition of the Cathedral Boys' Choir continued until 1865. The Augsburg Domsingknaben as we know them today were re-established within the diocese by Bishop Dr Josef Stimpfle in 1976 and were affiliated to the diocesan school and training administration.

Following their tradition, the Augsburg Domsingkaben attach particular significance to upholding the special style of Gregorian choir singing and old classic polyphony. The choir music of the early Viennese classic school and the vocal work of J.S. Bach belong to their firm repertoire.
