Kaliski Chór Akademicki Polifonia (Choir) |
Founded: 1989 - Kalisz, Poland |
The Polifonia Students’ Choir of Kalisz (Kaliski Chór Akademicki Polifonia) was founded by Jerzy Rubinski at the Institute of Pedagogy and the Arts of the Adam Mickiewicz University Campus in Kalisz. The choir gave its inaugural concert in October 1989. Since 1994 it has worked with Beate Szczepanowska-Szymanska as its director. The members of the choir are students of the University’s music education department and other faculties.
The Polifonia Choir has won an honourable mention at the International Competition in Adria (Italy) and two honourable mentions at the ‘Legnica Cantat’ National Choral Competition in Legnica. Performance during the audience with Pope John Paul II in the Vatican in 1992 was one of the most memorable events in the history of the ensemble. The repertoire of the Polifonia Choir spans music from the Middle Ages to modern times. In addition to a-cappella music the choir performs oratorio works with the Kalisz Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and the Students’ Symphony Orchestra from Hamm (Germany). |
