The Kammerorchester Berlin (Berlin Chamber Orchestra) (= KOB) is one of the oldest chamber orchestras in the German-speaking countries. Since its inception in 1945, Kammerorchester Berlin (Berlin Chamber Orchestra); = KOB) has become one of the most prestigious ensembles active today. One of the city's oldest ensembles, it first captured international attention appearing with Helmut Koch, its first artistic director. He led it till 1975. Under his direction the KOB soon won high international recognition.
Their innovative programming, recognised for traditional ‘Vienna Classics’ expands from the Baroque to the Contemporary period. The ensemble received a high honour, The Goethe Prize, from the City of Berlin.
The KOB, comprised of the most promising and most carefully selected young German musicians, has been praised for its rich tone and precise articulation. The orchestra has toured on practically every continent an has collaborated with some of the world's most famous artists such as Kurt Masur, Jeffrey Tate, Edith Mathis and Peter Schreier, Ludwig Güttler, Vittori Negri and Jochen Kowalski.
For its acclaimed CD recordings of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo, Antonio Vivaldi's Juditha Triumphans and W.A. Mozart's Betulia Liberata the KOB was awarded the ‘Grand Prix du Disque’. J.S. Bach's ‘Weltliche Kantaten’ were produced by Peter Schreier for CD and television recording.
Since 1995, the violin soloist Katrin Scholz is the artistic director of the KOB. She was the soloist in a much-praised recording by the KOB of the violin concertos of W.A. Mozart. |
