The Knabenkantorei Basel (= KKB) was created in 1927 created as "Singknaben der evangelisch-reformierten Kirche Basel-Stadt (Singing Boys of the Reformation Evangelist Church Basel City). Today the choir is more neutral, singing both religious and secular works. The KKB consists of the groups of Chorgruppen Vorkurs (about 10 members), Grundkurs (about 35 members) and Konzertchor (about 90 members). Since 1983 the choir is directed by Beat Raaflaub.
The choir, which consists of approximately 45 boy as well as 35 man voices, rehearses for two hours two times weekly. The singers use a substantial part of their spare time: Beside the rehearsals are added services, concerts, concert tours, radio and TV recordings as well as CD productions.
For the recess of the repertoire, the choir an annual camp takes place. The KKB has appeared so far in France, Belgium, Holland, England, Germany, Poland, Russia, the USA, Hungary, Finland, Estonia, Austria, Tschenia, South Africa, Brazil and Italy. Besides, the choir has participated on invitation at important music festivals. |
