The Dutch choral conductor, music teacher and composer/arranger, Luc Jakobs, obtained his HBO Music degree in Education (1976-1981) and his HBO degree in Music Theory:, Harmony, Counterpoint, Analysis, Solfege, Ear-training (1980-1985), both from the Conservatory of Music in Maastricht.
Since 1972 Luc Jakobs has been active as a choral-conductor. He was Conductor of Kamerkoor Couleur Vocale (September 1992-April 2013). In 1998 he attended the Kurt Thomas International Conducting Course in Utrecht, where I studied with Daniel Reuss, Jaap Hillen, Jos van Veldhoven and Daan Admiraal. Since November 1994, he is Conductor of Gemengd Kerkelijk Zangkoor St. Caecilia in Heythuysen; and since January 2017 he is Artistic Leader and Conductor of Bach Cantates Heythuysen in the Netherlands. As keyboardist and guitarist he was also active in several bands through many years. Nowadays he is the keyboard player of the band Matchbox. This band specializes on the performance of Steely Dan's music, among others.
Luc Jakobs is also working as a composer and arranger, mostly for vocal groups. his works have been performed all over the world, Washington, Philadelphia, London, to name a few.
Luc Jakobs was Music Teacher at Sint Antonius Doctor College in Kerkrade (August 1981-August 1985); Music Teacher at St. Willibrord Gymnasium, in Deurne (August 1982-August 1992). From September 1985 to September 2021, he was a professor in music theory, specially harmony and analysis, at Conservatorium Maastricht. In 1984 he started developping theory and harmony courses for pop/jazz students and he is still busy with it. |
