The Grupo Johann Sebastian Bach - Associação Musical (Johann Sebastian Bach Group - Musical Association) is a non-profit institution that was founded in July 2002, with the aim of promoting the study of Early Music, promoting it in the Autonomous Region of the Açores (Azores), as well as enhancing the archipelago's organizational heritage. The Association is registered in the Register of Promoters of Shows of an Artistic Nature by the Regional Directorate for Culture of the Azores.
The Grupo Johann Sebastian Bach - Associação Musical was born due to the personal interests and urges of some lovers of this musical genre who, some with specialized training, others with general training, motivated by the scarcity of cultural events of this theme in the Azorean islands, decided to change the course of Azorean culture, combining goodwill, effort, time and dedication with musical studies and their dissemination. In a slow walk, but rich in moments of knowledge sharing, studies and rehearsals of choir and orchestra (one of the activities of the association) began in temporary rooms at the Conservatório Regional de Ponta Delgada and in the Coro Alto da Igreja de São José. Subsequently, the Igreja do Carmo was assigned as a fixed location for rehearsals and study meetings of early music. Currently, the association is headquartered in Ponta Delgada, in a room provided for this purpose, at Casa da Vida Associativa, located at Rua Mont’Alverne.
The Association has about 50 members; is President of the Board Ana Almeida and Artistic Director Cristiana Spadaro (Professor of Organ and Harpsichord, PhD in Conducting) who directs the Coro da Associação. |
