Created in Namur, the Chœur de Chambre Ishango brings together singers from the Brussels region and Wallonia. These are recruited by audition.
Born from the desire to approach music rarely sung in Belgium, the Chœur de Chambre Ishango is essentially dedicated to the repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries and the Baroque repertoire. After having devoted 12 years to it, Thierry Lequenne, its co-founder and director since 2002, handed over direction of the choir to Stefano Poletto in September 2014. In September 2022, it is the turn of Ivan Yohan to take over the direction of the choir.
Since its creation, the Chœur de Chambre Ishango has notably performed at the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Charleroi, Concerts de midi de l’ONB, Festival Namur en Chœurs, Eté Musical de Roisin, Mons Découvertes (ORCW), Société Philharmonique de Namur, Festival Musical de Namur, Festival Musique à Saint-Pierre de Saint-Chamond, Koorcyclus A Capella de Koorlink Anvers, Conservatoire de Bruxelles, Église Saint-Jacques-sur-Coudenberg (Brussles)…
In addition to its a cappella performances, the Chœur de Chambre Ishango regularly works with professional instrumental ensembles such as La Cetra d’Orfeo, Orchestre de Chambre Aria, Concert Bourgeois, Bach Orchestra d’Ekaterinburg, The New Baroque Times... The choir also collaborates with guest conductors (Lionel Meunier, Maria Guinand, Peter Dejans). It has twice joined forces with the Ensemble Vocal Musa Horti de Leuven. |
