Roman Hoza (Baritone)

Born: 1990 - Zlin / Hulin, Czech Republic

The Czech baritone, Roman Hoza, studied at Studied at Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno (with Z. Šmukař) and at Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna (with University Professor M. Klaushofer). He also attended many master-classes of world-known soloists or coaches such as Christa Ludwig, L. Watson, H. Deutsch, J.P. Fouchécourt, Tom Krause, Adam Plachetka or D. Syrus.

In 2014 Roman Hoza participated in Salzburger Festspiele Young Singers Project as Dandini in Cenerentola for children audience. In the same year he took part in the opera studio of Opera National de Lyon. From January 2015 to August 2016, he was a member of the opera studio of Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg where he appeared on stage in many repertoire roles like Morales, Silvano, Marullo and others. In 2020, he joined the regular ensemble of Deutsche Oper am Rhein and he will be performing roles such as Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Dandini in La Cenerentola or Belcore in Elisir d'amore.

Roman Hoza is also a soloist of Janacek Opera Brno where you could hear him as W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Guglielmo in W.A. Mozart's Cosí fan tutte, Marbuel in Dvorak's Kate and the Devil, Rimbaud in Le Comte Ory, Belcore in Elisir d’amore or Jaufré Rudel in Saariaho's L’Amour de loin. He is a regular guest in Prague National Theatre (W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni and Figaro, Donizetti’s Mamma Agata or Rossini’s Dandini) and National Theatre Ostrava in the title role of Hamlet by A. Thomas. Among his performed repertoire belongs for example the title role in Eugene Onegin, bass/baritone parts in Carmina Burana, George Frideric Handel's The Messiah, J.S. Bach's ohannes-Passion (BWV 245), Felix Mendelssohn's Paulus, J. Haydn's Die Schöpfung, Dvorak’s Te Deum and many more. In 2022, on the occasion of the French-Czech co-production, he performs the role of Melisso in G.F. Handel's Alcina with the Collegium 1704 under the conductor Václav Luks at the National theatre in Brno.

Roman Hoza focuses on chamber music too (song cycles by Dvorak, Janacek, Gustav Mahler, Martinu, Ravel, Schubert, Robert Schumann…) as well as Baroque music co-operating with leading baroque ensembles in Czech Republic (Collegium 1704, Musica Florea, Ensemble Inégal…). He currently lives in Brno, Czech Republic.
