The Australian lyric mezzo-soprano, Cailin Howarth, has completed a Bachelor of Music and a Diploma in Italian Language at Melbourne University. In 2012, she completed an intensive Italian language course in L’Università per Stranieri di Siena, Italy, Italy and sang with professional Vocal Ensemble Polifonici during her stay.
Cailin Howarth received the Dr David & Dr Gillian Ritchie Scholarship to attend The Lisa Gasteen National Opera School. Here she studied the roles of Cornelia in George Frideric Handel's Giulio Cesare, Bertarido in Rodelina and Zweite Dame in W.A. Mozart's Die Zaubeflöte. She received the 2013 Aria, Tim Pretty Vocal Scholarships and most promising Classical singer at the West Gippsland Eisteddfod. In 2013, she was a Finalist in the Armstead Singing Competition and the Acclaim awards. She has sung in master-classes with Andreas Scholl, Fiona Campbell, Rosamond Illing, John Bolton Wood and Andrew Lawrence-King.
Cailin Howarth specialises in Oratorio, Recital and Concert repertoire. She has created the roles of Hyale in Charpentier’s Acteon, Belinda in Pucell’s Dido and Aeneas, La Musique in Charpentier’s Les Arts Florrisants and has performed in L’orfeo by Monteverdi. She has performed with The Consort of Melbourne, Gloriana Chamber Choir, MUCS and The Australian Choir with whom she has participated in a European tour as a soloist. She regularly performs with Melbourne Opera and has performed in their productions of W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, La Traviata and their Verdi Gala.
Cailin Howarth has premiered works by Australian composers Dylan Edge, Callum Dawlings and May Andrewartha. In 2010, she created the role of Olive Davoren in the World Premiere of The Cockatoo's by Sarah de Jong with Victorian Opera.
Cailin Howarth has been a soloist in performances of G.F. Handel's Messiah, J.S. Bach’s St John Passion (BWV 245) and J.S. Bach’s Magnificat (BWV 243), Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria and Dvořák’s Saint Ludmila. In 2011, she was Mezzo Soprano Soloist in Henry Purcell’s King Arthur with MUCS. Cailin has performed with Chunky Move Dance Company, Victorian Opera, The Kronos Quartet, The Australian Youth Orchestra, The Australian Chamber Orchestra and renowned New Music Ensemble Bang on a Can.
Cailin Howarth's great interest is Performance Psychology. She previously worked as a professional Opera Singer and as such, she intends to draw on this knowledge of elite performance to pursue a career in corporate, sport and performing arts performance psychology. Her immediate goal is to work in a human resources/corporate environment in order to gain the necessary business knowledge and skills. She is also very interested in mental health, particularly in young people. Her long term goal is to work in corporate performance consulting and coaching to performing artists, professional sportspeople and businesses. She received Graduate Diploma of Psychology with Distinction from the University of Melbourne (2015); and Graduate Diploma of Professional Psychology with High Distinction from Monash University (2016). She has worked as Usher & Visitor Experience Representative at Arts Centre Melbourne (since September 2012); Facilitation and Administration at More to Life Coaching and Healing in Melbourne (since October 2014); Test Coordinator at Hudson in Melbourne (since February 2017). HR Administrator/Executive Assistant at Department of Premier and Cabinet in LocationFootscray, Victoria (since April 2017); Placements Consultant at Performance Education Group in Melbourne (since August 2017). She currently lives in Melbourne, Australia. |
