Falko Hönisch (Baritone)

The German baritone, Falko Hönisch, passed 1.State sexams in in artc teaching at secondary schools at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe (1998-2002); and obtained degrees in choral and orchestral conducting, Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe (2000). He studied singing at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart, (2001-2004); Lied interpretation at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart (2002-2004). He has been the recipient of numerous awards in international singing competitions, including: Multiple award winner at the IVC Competition in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands (2008); 1st prize at the Richard Strauss-Wettbewerb in Munich (2009); 3rd prize at the 58th Internationaler Musik-Wettbewerb der ARD in Munich (2009); Audience Award at the “New Wagnerian Voices” Competition in Karlsruhe (2009); 4th prize at the Lauritz Melchior Competition for Wagnerian Voices in Aalborg, Deemark (2010).

As an opera singer, Falko Hönisch has sung over several years at various opera houses. His repertoire now comprises important roles of his voice, including Il Conte di Almavica in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, and Wolfram von Eschenbach in Tannhäuser, as well as Baroque and modern operas. His international career has taken him to Austria (Theater an der Wien), Italy (Teatro Giuseppe Verdi, Trieste), The Netherlands (Nationale Reisopera) and France (Opéra de Lyon) under the baton of Niksa Bareza, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Cornelius Meister, Roberto Paternostro, Siegfried Köhler, et. al. Amongst the stage directors with whom he has worked, Michiel Dijkema, Christine Mielitz, Vera Nemirova, Gabriele Rech or La Fura dels Baus stand out.

As a concert singer, Falko Hönisch has sung both baritone and bass roles. He has sung with such conductors as Ton Koopman, Frieder Bernius, Ed Spanjaard and Raphaël Pichon in such renowned concert houses as Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf and the Händel Festival in Halle (Saale), amongst others, singing works ranging from J.S. Bach’s Passions and Cantatas, Haydn's Die Schöpfung and Felix Mendelssohn's Oratorios, through Frank Martin’s In Terra Pax and Arnold Schoenberg's A Survivor from Warsaw, as well as many contemporary works.

As a recitalist, Falko Hönisch has collaborated with numerous pianists, working on both most of the major song cycles by Schubert, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms, and lesser known works by relatively unknown composers and also by contemporary living composers whose works he has premiered.

In all of these three genres Falko Hönisch has established himself as a versatile singer:
