The American harpsichordist and organist, Karen Hite Jacob, graduated from Myers Park High in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1965. She obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Music and Education from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro in 1969, and her Master of Art degree in Teaching from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1970.
Karen Hite Jacob was a teacher at Central Piedmont C.C. in Charlotte, North Carolina from 1970 to 1982. In 1977 she established Carolina Pro Musica as a not-for-profit organization and she is the Artistic She was Music Director at St. John's Episcopal Church in Charlotte from 1982 to 1991, and Music Director at Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian in Charlotte from 1991. Since January 2000, she is instructor in music and director of Arts at the Abbey for Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, North Carolina. She teaches there music appreciation, the abbey chorus, piano, organ, voice (sometimes), play the organ for sunday mass and special monastery and college services and direct the Arts at the Abbey concert series. Her early music ensemble Carolina Pro Musica is ensemble in-residence at the college.
Karen Hite Jacob is founding member and past president of the Southeastern Historical Keyboard Society and is active in Charlotte Sister Cities. Her musical research, presentations and performances include the USA, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, the UK (Grosvernors' Chapel & Handel House, London) and Peru (concert). She has guided Carolina Pro Musica trips to Poland, England, and taken students to Russia (2011) to teach music and English (2005). She is the producer of Carolina Pro Musica's CD’s. She was guest harpsichordist with the Charlotte Symphony in October 2010. She made organ recordings, as a part of the complete works of Antonio Cabezon in honor of his birth (1610). |
