The Spanish counter-tenor, José Hernández Pastor, entered as a singer at the Schola Cantorum d 'Algemesí in 1979, where he began his musical studies with Diego Ramón i Lluch. In 1995 he obtained the title of piano teacher at the Conservatorio de Valencia and in 1998 he graduated in Musicology at the Universidad de Oviedo. It was during these years that he began to take an interest in early music, beginning to sing as a counter-tenor. The Swiss government granted him a scholarship to study at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, one of the centers with the greatest tradition and prestige in the research and interpretation of early music (1998-2003). He has trained with professors such as Richard Levitt and Nicolau de Figueiredo, as well as Montserrat Figueras, René Jacobs and Anthony Rooley. He is currently a student of Andreas Scholl.
José Hernández Pastor's career stands out for an intense concert work in Europe and Latin America. Despite his youth, he has sung under conducors as Jordi Savall, Dominique Vellard, Joshua Rifkin, Eduardo Lopez Banzo, Yves Corboz and Carles Magraner and has participated in the festivals of Montalbane (Leipzig), Styriarte (Graz, Austria), Early Music (Utrecht) and Música Viva (Barcelona, Spain). Among the venues in which he has sung are the Kölner Philarmonie and the Koncerthaus in Vienna, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Liceo Theater in Barcelona and the National Auditorium in Catalonia.
In 1998 José Hernández Pastor founded the duo El Cortesano with Ariel Abramovich, dedicated entirely to the dissemination of the Spanish repertoire for vihuela. In 2004 he started as a director, founding Cantoría Hispánica, dedicated to Spanish polyphony, and at the same time a platform for his Baroque recitals. Since 2004 he has been a member of the La Colombina quartet (group), with whom he has been active since then. He currently lives in Madrid, Spain. |
