The Helios Ensemble was founded by Wolfgang Lange in 1991 as an instrumental ensemble, possessing a broad repertoire ranging from Baroque music to contemporary works. The occupation is flexible: from trio to (chamber) orchestra. Helios initiates its own productions, but also acts as an accompaniment orchestra in performing among other oratorios. Since 2005, the Helios Ensemble expanded with its own vocal ensemble: the Luna Kamerkoor.
Helios Ensemble makes productions in which music is combined with other disciplines and explains in its programming a link between modern idiom and tradition. Helios wants to give a boost to composers by ordering works, especially choral music combined with instrumental music. Cross-fertilization between old and new, in which humor and seriousness, playfulness and playability bridge between contemporary composers and old masters. The aim is to extend work that are also singable for the many choirs. With rich choral repertoire Helios wants a wide audience to enjoy music of all time, with quality and individuality. Helios wants the dramatic possibilities of the musical works it performs as much potential: both in space and dramatic expression. Concerts of Helios are not static - the use of theatrical devices give an extra dimension to the music performed.
In January 2007 Helios Ensemble realized production Als je weet waar ik ben zoek me dan ("If you know what I'm looking for me") by Gábor Tarján - composed on some poems by Lucebert, and Daan Manneke's Cantique de Pascal in a new version, Double, instrumented by Bart Visman. Manneke composed for Helios Trajectoire, a grand motet for chorus and ensemble. |
