The German conductor, Volker Hedtfeld, found early on his way to the music. In addition to music lessons (violin, viola, organ and piano), he discovered his passion for singing in particular. He has gained experience with 17 years as choir director of youth and church choirs. He first studied music education at the Musikhochschule in Köln. In addition, he performed as an organist in the church and in appearance outside the church. In his studies he specialised in the subjects of choral conducting and choral voice training, including with Professor Gerd Müller-Lorenz (Lübeck), Professor Bodo Bischoff (Berlin) and Professor Kurt Hofbauer (Vienna).
In 1999, Volker Hedtfeld created his first vocal group Opus 99 and was particularly successful, with concerts in the Ruhr and Rhineland. In 2000 he moved to orchestral conducting studies with Professor Lutz Köhler at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Here Hedtfeld took over in February 2001, the direction of the Cantorei der Reformationskirche in Berlin-Tiergarten. With this choir he has since performed regularly choral-symphonic works. As co-founder of the Langen Nacht der Chöre (Long Night of the choirs) he has contributed to the threatened closure of the Reformationskirche as a concert and meeting place. In 2002, he founded the chamber choir Opus Vocale.
From 2002-2003, Volker Hedtfeld added to his education at the Ökumenischen Institut für Kirchenmusik der Universität der Künste Berlin the subject of choral conducting with Professor Uwe Gronostay. Since the winter semester 2003-2004 he studied choral conducting with Proessor Jörg-Peter Weigle at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin.. Since September 2007, he is conductor and artistic director of the Karl-Forster-Chores Berlin. |
