The German bass, Cornelius Hauptmann, studied at the Music Academie of his hometown. In 1982 he passed the examination for stage qualification and, as a student of Jakob Stämpfli, he graduated from the Conservatory Bern and received his diploma as soloist. Master-courses with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Hans Hotter, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Eric Tappy added considerably to his artistic development and led to numerous awards and acknowledgements at international singing contests.
Cornelius Hauptmannīs first engagement was at the State Theatre in Stuttgart and until 1989 he was member of the opera ensembles in Heidelberg and Karlsruhe. During the past years he was mainly engaged in singing Mozart - in Munich, Leipzig, Orléans, Paris (Bastille and Châtelet), Lisbon, Madrid, Lyon, Berlin (Deutsche Oper), Amsterdam, Zürich etc. under such conductors as Zubin Mehta, John Eliot Gardiner, Marba, Hollreiser, Kent Nagano, Hartmut Haenchen and others. Predominantly in the concert area he became internationally known under such conductors as Frieder Bernius, Leonard Bernstein, Bertini, Michel Corboz, John Eliot Gardiner, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Christopher Hogwood, Neville Marriner, Kurt Masur, Helmuth Rilling and others.
Many recordings are proof of his artistic diversity: the J.S. Bach's Passions, Mozart`s Masses and Operas, Robert Schumann`s Paradies and Peri (John Eliot Gardiner/DG), Monteverdi, Schubert, Heinrich Schütz, Felix Mendelssohn (Frieder Bernius), Haydn`s Stabat Mater (Pinnock/DG), Oedipe by George Enescu (Foster/EMI), The Magic Flute (Roger Norrington/EMI), L.v. Beethoven`s Missa Solemnis (Philippe Herreweghe/Harmonia Mundi), Mozart`s Requiem and c-minor Mass (Leonard Bernstein/DG), as well as other recordings.
Cornelius Hauptmann favours the German Lied; after recording Lieder by Carl Loewe, Silcher, Schubert, Mozart/Hoffmeister another recording with Schubert Lieder is in the offing. Lieder-concerts, at home and abroad, regularly augment his appointments. |
