The Hungarian soprano, Sylvia [Szilvia] Hamvasi, at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest. She attended master-classes with Vera Rózsa, Julia Hamari, Nicholas Clapton, Ilona Bakonyi and has won prizes at international competitions.
Sylvia Hamvasi made her debut as Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto and Pamina in Mozart Die Zauberflöte at the Hungarian State Opera. Since 2001-2002 season, she has been a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (based in Düsseldorf and Duisburg), where she has performed there major Mozart roles as Constance in Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Düsseldorf, September 24, 2005), Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Sandrina/Gravin Violante in La finta giardiniera (Düsseldorf, June 29, 2009) and Celia and Lucio Cinna in Lucio Silla, as well as Antonia in Offenbach’s Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Mimi in Puccini's La Boheme, Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto, Titania Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti, Suor Genovieffa in Il Trittico - Suor Angelica by Puccini (Düsseldorf October 19, 2003), Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare in Egitto by George Frideric Handel (Düsseldorf, April 25, 2010), and in different roles of the Monterverdi and the Janáček cycle. She was very good n the title role in Charpentier's Louise (produced by Christof Loy).
Sylvia Hamvasi has performed as guest inother opera houses, e.g. at the Hamburg State Opera as Erminde in Reinhard Keiser’s Der lächerliche Prinz Jodelet, in Bonn, as Mimi in Puccini's La Bohème and in Frankfurt as Constanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail. As a concert singer she has sung throughout Europe.
In 2011-2012 season she appears for the first time as Blanche in Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmelites, The Governess in B. Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, Phébé in Rameau's Castor et Pollux as well as Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi fan tute and Micaela in Georges Bizet's Carmen. |
