The Hamburger Barockorchester (Hamburg Baroque Orchestra) is led since 1991 by concert-master Gesine Hildebrandt. The master cast consists of 8 violins, 3 violas, 2 cellos, violone, bassoon and harpsichord or organ. Depending on needs, the ensemble is expanded or reduced. Woodwind and brass instrumentalists are consulted on request. Played on original instruments of the former and middle of the 18th Century or at the appropriate copies. The technical playing and aural characteristics of these instruments allow for a transparent interpretation with the goal of convincingly conveying context-expression and the vitality of Baroque and Classical music. The orchestra has developed a repertoire, which encompasses the orchestral music, cantatas and all the great oratorio works of the 17th and 18th Centuries. Furthermore, the orchestra is engaged regularly for opera productions in the forum of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg.
The Hamburger Barockorchester appears also far beyond Hamburg, and has collaborated with internationally known soloists such as Markus Brutscher, David Cordier, Max van Egmond, Wilfried Jochens, Cornelia Samuelis, Barbara Schlick, Gotthold Schwarz, Kai Wessel or Randall Wong; with instrumental ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Musika Fiata Köln, as well as with choirs such as the Aachener Bachverein, Junge Kantorei Frankfurt, Monteverdi-Chor Hamburg and the Norddeutschen Vocalsolisten Berlin, the St. Nicolai Chor Kiel, the Vocalensemble St. Jacobi Hamburg or the Studio Vocale
Karlsruhe. |
