The German contralto/mezzo-soprano, Hanna Hagel, studied music education and English at the Universität Leipzig (Bachelor of Arts degree: September 2011-February 2015; Masters of Education: September 2014-January 2019), before taking up artistic-pedagogical singing studies with Professor Ilse-Christine Otto at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy" in Leipzig, graduating with honors (September 2016-November 2019). She received further musical impulses as part of her music education studies, Erasmus (Undergraduate Voice at Birmingham Conservatoire, UK - majoring with Louise Crane and Maureen Brathwaite: September-December 2013) and master-classes from Professor Ursula Schönhals, Louise Crane, Maureen Brathwaite, Professor Dr. Bernd Göpfert and Lena Carina Bendzulla. In 2013 she was a finalist in the Birmingham Conservatoire's Cecil Drew Oratorio Prize.
Hanna Hagel focuses her attention primarily on concert singing. She shows particular passion for works of early music. Another focus of her work is making music in small ensembles. She is a founding member and singer of the Ensemble Neue Kammer and sings regularly in the ensembles Ensemble 1684 (Director: Gregor Meyer) and the Ensemble Consart (Director: Andreas Reuter). In the 2018-2019 concert season, she was engaged in the MDR Rundfunkchor Leipzig. In autumn 2021, she and her ensemble Neue Kammer were accepted into the Deutschen Musikrats's two-year funding program InScen:Vocal.
In addition to her artistic work, Hanna Hagel works as a freelance singing teacher. Her work includes both individual voice training and voice training in choirs and smaller ensembles. She has worked and continues to work for the Forum Thomanum, MDR Kinderchor (Director: Alexander Schmitt), Deutsch-Französischen Chor Chorbeau (Director: Franziska Kuba), Denkmalchor Leipzig (Director: Philipp Goldmann), Schola Cantorum Leipzig (Director: Bernhard Steiner), as well as the Kinderchor der Oper Leipzig (Director: Sophie Bauer). Since the winter semester 2020-2021, she has held a teaching position for singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy" in Leipzig (HMT Leipzig). In 2017-2018 she received the Deutschlandstipendium and was accepted as a mentee into the mentoring arts program at HMT Leipzig. Since November 2022 she has been a mentor herself in the mentoring arts program at HMT Leipzig. She is also a member of the Bund Deutscher Gesangspädagogen (BDG). |
