The Heinrich-Schütz-Chor (= HSCM) is the church choir of the Evangelischen Erlöserkirchengemeinde Münster/Westphalia and exists under this name since beginning of the 1960's. They see themselves at the same time as part of his Gemeinde, whose services they perform regularly, as also as supraregional active concert choir.
Concert tours led the HSCM to England, France, Holland, France, Thuringia etc. High points were concerts in Durham (Cathedral), Leeds (Townhall), Douai (St. Pierre), Paris (St. Sulpice), Orleans (Cathedrale), St. Benoit (Basilique), Berlin (St. Marien, Dom), Lübeck (St. Jakobi), Lüneburg (St. Nicolai) and Mühlhausen (Divi Blasii), among others. In Münster the choir prepares two to three bigger concerts per year. Since 1992 Winfried Berger leads the ensemble as a church musician of the Erloeserkirchengemeinde and particularly trains it in historical performance practice.
The repertoire of the choir covers many important oratorios of the music history. The HSCM has performed Claudio Monteverdi's Marienvesper, as well as the two Passions (BWV 244 & BWV 245), the Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) and the Mass in B minor (BWV 232) by J.S. Bach, the Requiem of W.A. Mozart or the Messiah by George Frideric Handel. The HSCM also performs works from the romantic and contemporary choir literature. The ensemble feels connected in particular with the works of its name giver. On the occasion of 350-year anniversary, the Westfälischer Friede 1998, the HSCM produced CD with the complete sacred choral music of 1648 by Heinrich Schütz. |
