The German bass, Hans Griepentrog, studied singing with Ingeborg Most in Freiburg and Hans Sotin in Cologne. Since having passed his final exams with distinction he has been working with Professor Rudolf Piernay in Mannheim.
Hans Griepentrog won the 1st prize at the German Federal singing competition in Berlin in 1990, followed by several recordings and broadcastings by Bayerischer Rundfunk, Westdeutscher Rundfunk, Südwestfunk and by ZDF television. A prize-winner at the 1995 ‘Meistersänger’ competition in Nuremberg, he also was the recipient of a special award from the German foundation of Economy and Commerce.
Hans Griepentrog made his opera debut at the age of 28, singing Sarastro in W.A. Mozart´s Die Zauberflöte in Regensburg. Further opera engagements took him to Freiburg and Dessau, before getting a scholarship contract with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where his roles included Titurel in Wagner´s Parsifal, Speaker in Die Zauberflöte, Joe in Weill’s Rise and fall of the city of Mahagonny and the King in Verdi’s Aida.
Currently a soloist at Bielefeld Theatre, Hans Griepentrog is singing roles like Ferrando in Verdi´s Il Trovatore, Alidoro in Rossini’s Cenerentola, Don Alfonson in W.A. Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte and others.
A concert and oratorio singer as well, Hans Griepentrog has appeared at several festivals, including Bachwoche Ansbach and Kissinger Sommer.
