The Göttinger Stadtkantorei (Göttingen City Choir) (= GSK) is an efficient, non-professional concert choir with about 100 members. The musical emphasis lies in the development of church-musical works from the Baroque era to the modern times. The establishment of the choir goes back to the year 1930. The GSK was managed by the Artistic Directors Ludwig Doormann (1930 to 1971) and Hermann Amlung (1971 to 1999). Since August 1999 Bernd Eberhardt is the new Director of the GSK.
In the course of the past decades the GSK has performed nearly all works of the church-musical standard literature. Beyond that very difficult modern works were performed, such as Richard Strauss' Deutsche Messe, Frank Martin's Messe für Doppelchor or Franz Schmidt's Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln. Apart from its numerous concert engagements, which led the GSK to many European countries and various Festivals, the choir works regularly in services of the St. Johanniskirche in Göttingen. |
