The Belgian soprano, Griet De Geyter, has been fascinated from an early age by the variety of musical genres and possibilities of the voice. This has led to an eclectic career that embraces a wide repertoire from polyphony to contemporary in oratorio, song, chamber music, and on the opera stage. She attended the Lemmens Institute in Leuven where she studied singing with Dina Grossberger and Lieve Vanhaverbeke and recorder with Bart Spanhove and Bart Coen. After obtaining her Master of Music degree, she continued her studies at the Dutch National Opera Academy in The Hague and Amsterdam where she earned Master of Music degree in Opera. She also received the Ruim Baan voor Talent scholarship to continue her studies with Jard van Nes. Griet currently studies with Margreet Honig.
As a soloist Griet De Geyter performs many of the great works from the oratorio and vocal-orchestral repertoire including the passions and B minor Mass (BWV 232) by J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, The Creation of Haydn, Stabat Mater of both Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and Boccherini, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Mass in c and Requiem by W.A. Mozart, Peer Gynt by Grieg, Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 and Symphony No. 4,
Recent opera appearances include Amor and Euridice in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas, and several W.A. Mozart roles including Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Blondchen in The Abduction from the Seraglio, and Pamina in The Magic Flute.
Griet De Geyter also has a passion for art song with a particular interest in the songs of W.A. Mozart, Schubert, Robert Schumann, Richard Strauss, Ravel, G. Fauré, Debussy, and Alban Berg. She has collaborated with pianists Nicolas Callot, Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort, Tine Deckers, Katrien Vercauter, Barbara Baltussen, and Pascal Mantin, and regularly performs German romantic music and British and American 20th century songs with her clarinetist brother Rik De Geyter.
Griet De Geyter has worked with conductors Otto Tausk, Vladimir Ashkenazy, James Wood, Philippe Herreweghe, Frank Agsteribbe, Richard Egarr, Nicolas Mansfield, Paul Dombrecht, Jos Vermunt and Paul Van Nevel, and with numerous orchestras including the Holland Symfonia, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Concerto d'Amsterdam, Residentie Bachorkest, European Union Youth Orchestra, and Champ d'Action. |
